Two short years and then you move on....

Haley graduated from Earl Warren Junior High with honors.
We are so proud of Haley and all she has accomplished.
She was a member of the school marching band, where she made some very dear friends.
Now she's off to high school!!!!

Behind this big smile is a broken heart as Haley has to say goodbye to her very best friend, also named Haley, who is moving to Oklahoma in a few short days.  They have had so much fun together.
Haley will treasure this friendship forever!!

The end of an era....

The end of the elementary school year brings with it various activities meant to enrich our children's minds.....

One such activity is the egg drop.  Students are encouraged to think of ways to protect an egg from breaking as it is dropped off a second story roof.  This year Hannah paired up with her friend Esha  and they came up with the idea of housing the egg (wrapped in a small dish towel) inside a bag full of balloons.  As the egg was dropped from the roof, I noted the visible stress on Hannah's face.  She was very concerned about the well being of her egg!  To her great delight, the egg survived!! Many other student's eggs did not fair so well, especially the ones that were put inside a jar of peanut butter.  Let's just say the custodian was going to have a lot of fun cleaning up the courtyard floor!!

Another great end of the year activity is Greek Day. The students dress up in their finest toga and come to school ready for something akin to the olympic games.  They are broken up into groups and compete in various activities.  I helped out at the discus throw. (actually it was a frisbee) The children were very competitive and teams were judged on performance as well as team spirit and enthusiasm. Hannah's team did well in all areas of the competition.

The best activity for parents to attend is the awards ceremony for academic achievement.  Hannah outdid herself with awards this year.  I am so proud of all of her accomplishments.  She was on Principal's list all through Elementary school, had superior citizenship, and earned a gold plaque for school participation in student council, orchestra, chorus, sports, and battle of the books.

This is my last child to go through Elementary school.  She did us proud!! On to Junior High!!!

A visit from the little guy, and his parents!!!

With Emily coming to Bakersfield to go through the temple, we knew we had to get Tyler, Allison and Connor here too...so we flew them out to visit.  Connor and Allison both ended up in the ER.  Connor had pneumonia and an ear infection.  Thank goodness for modern medicine!! He was feeling better in a few days. Allison  had a viral infection and could not take anything but tylenol and ibuprofen.  We took Connor into our room for a few nights so she could rest. Once Connor was feeling better, he was ready to party!! And there was no shortage of people ready to join him!!!!

A beautiful day indeed!!

Emily went through the temple on Saturday  May 25, 2013. It is a wonderful thing to be in the temple with those you love so dear!! My heart was so full of joy as I watched Emily make sacred covenants that will bless her life forever!

I hope they call me on a mission.....

The big day finally arrived, the day that Emily (and the rest of us) had been anticipating!!! She was so excited to receive that big white envelope in the mail!!  Many of Emily's friends and family members were gathered in her apartment, while we at home were skyping from Bakersfield. As she slowly, and carefully opened that envelope, my heart was beating!  Then she read that famous line...."You are hereby called to labor in the Raleigh, North Carolina mission" and we all cheered.  My girl Emily had been called to serve, and I was beaming with pride!  I can not put in to words the utter joy I felt at that moment!! She had such a big smile on her face.  Oh, it was an awesome moment.
She reports to the MTC in Provo on August 14, 2013.
